About the Book

“The gates of Jerusalem stood open when the camel and his master arrived, late in the afternoon. They had traveled for many days, returning again to the lands they’d visited many years before, searching again for the holy one who’d drawn them.”

He Is Not Here follows Astor the camel and his last master as they return to the Holy Land, seeking again the blessed one born under that star so many years ago.

Astor and the last wise man follow in Jesus’ footsteps — from the palm-strewn Gates of Jerusalem, to the Upper Room, to the Garden of Gethsemane, to the Hill and the Cross — but they do not find him anywhere.

Guided by the animals along the way, it’s in the last place they look — the Empty Tomb — that Astor and the wise man find the answers they seek.

In this sequel to the Christmas adventure, Bearing Gifts, experience the Easter story through the eyes of Astor the camel and the other animals who witnessed Jesus’ death and resurrection.

As a children’s book collector, this has everything I look for. The story is inspiring and relatable to young children, the illustrations are beautiful and captivating. I look forward to many more works from this pair!

About the Author

Steve Arensberg writes stories to cultivate a sense of wonder (for the reader and himself): stories with a sense of magic and mystery, with worlds you can get lost in, characters you love (or love to hate), and stories that carry you along on a current of powerful emotion. “More wonder, please,” says Elizabeth Gilbert in Big Magic (a favorite book on writing) – and that’s exactly what Steve hopes his work brings to you, the reader.

About the Illustrator

Polina Kotliar is a mother, an illustrator, and a graduate of Seneca College Animation program of Toronto, Canada. She has loved drawing animals since childhood — portraying their character and imagining their feelings has always come naturally to her. He Is Not Here is her second collaboration with Steve.
